– Eric Harvie Theatre
Northern Giant (with John Vaillant & Wayne Sawchuk)

Raised in the Skagit Valley, a farming community in Washington state, Michael Christopher Brown pursued photography during his undergraduate studies in Psychology, when a photojournalism class inspired him to document his family while living at home. After completing an MA in Visual Communication from Ohio State University in 2003, Brown won the 58th College Photographer of the Year competition and completed an internship at National Geographic Magazine before beginning a freelance career in 2006.

Aside from the photographic assignment on the Muskwa–Kechika wilderness transect with author John Vaillant and conservationist Wayne Sawchuk, Michael’s recent assignment work has also included adventure stories in California for National Geographic Magazine, street photography in Manhattan for GEO France, potash mining in Canada for Fortune and 2008 Olympics coverage for ESPN the Magazine. In 2007 and 2008 he received several international emerging photographer awards.
