Eric Harvie Theatre
When the Banff Mountain Book Festival debuted in 1994, Sid Marty was the first guest to step on stage. Presenting his Literary Mountain Café, a mix of humourous and dramatic poetry, stories, and original songs, Marty opened an event that would soon become internationally renowned. This fall, Marty returns to the spotlight to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Book Festival with a look back on 15 (and more!) years of inspiring mountain stories.
A best-selling nature and adventure author, Marty’s writing reflects on mountain places and culture. He has written four non-fiction books, including Leaning on the Wind: Under the Spell of the Great Chinook, which won Best Book – Mountain Environment and Culture at the 1995 Banff Mountain Book Festival. He was recognized again in 1999 for Switchbacks: True Stories of the Canadian Rockies, which won Best Book – Mountain Literature. Marty’s latest book, The Black Grizzly of Whiskey Creek was launched at The Banff Centre in April of this year.
