Kathy Stegman: Rapids
“This image was captured during a photography workshop at The Banff Centre. We were spending the day shooting kayakers running rapids outside Banff. I realized that everyone could get good action photos, and decided that I wanted something a little unusual — more creative. While working with the natural surroundings for different compositions, I zoomed in on one of the kayakers and slowed down my shutter speed to give the photograph a more artistic feel while still trying to capture the action of the event.”
A relative newcomer to the field, Kathy Stegman is a self-taught photographer who excels at capturing the emotion, individuality, and beauty of the moment. Having come into the profession through her attraction to horses and other animals, she has a true passion for action photography. Stegman has worked on a freelance basis for the last three years, photographing equestrian sporting events and wild mustangs as well as creating portraits. She photographs a broad range of subjects, from flora to architecture, and especially enjoys the challenge of obtaining good compositions from whatever is provided by Mother Nature or by humans.
