Linda Sauer: Cottonwood Leaves and Reflection
“Zion National Park is a popular place for photography. As sunset approaches, there could be a dozen or more people standing on the bridge over the Virgin River waiting for just the right moment to photograph one of its familiar views. While these grand iconic landscapes are fun to photograph, I also look for scenes more uniquely my own. In this image, I am alongside a creek. I had found a still pool of water where cottonwood leaves had collected and in the late afternoon the water reflected the clear blue sky and the warmth of the nearby mountaintops. I saw bands of color and interesting shapes and patterns. I saw heart-shaped leaves, leaves with colorful water droplets, and leaves that looked like they had faces painted on them. It was a moment in time that could not be repeated — a scene where reality was interwoven with abstraction.”
Linda Sauer’s passion for landscape and nature photography has spanned over two decades. Through her images she shares the beauty of this earth, often photographing over-looked details and fleeting moments in time. Rocks, trees, and reflections are frequently her subject; imagination in nature a frequent theme. Her work is exhibited in galleries and has won numerous awards. She is a member of the Sacramento Viewpoint Photographic Art Gallery and the North American Nature Photographers Association.
