Eric Heistand: Splash or Trash
“Trash Can Falls is a popular swimming hole just outside of Boone, North Carolina. Unfortunately, this cool, shady oasis gets trashed by folks who think nothing of leaving behind their cigarette butts and beer cans. As a spiritual mentor for college students, I had a vision for helping students live out their faith by restoring the area back to the original beauty that I believe God intended for us to enjoy. Armed with massive garbage bags, we removed about 20 full bags of debris. This picture depicts the ensuing celebration. With outstretched arms, the female jumper strikes a beautiful balance of both spontaneity and redemption.”
Eric Heistand grew up in the flatlands of Ohio, but has always had the mountains written on his heart. After graduating from the University of Denver, Eric was presented with his first point-and-shoot camera by his parents as a college graduation gift. Since then, he has enjoyed capturing the beauty and drama of life as it unfolds before his eyes. Eric currently lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina where his two young boys provide most of his daily beauty and drama. Eric’s crowning achievement is a photo book of the boys that he gives to his wife every year at Christmas.
