Glenn Oakley: Camas Marsh

Glenn Oakley: Camas Marsh

“Each spring on the high, wide valley of Camas Prairie, Idaho, the camas lily rises from the marsh and blossoms in a sea of magenta. It is a short-lived but stunning scene, amplified by the waterfowl and wading birds which are drawn to the mountain marsh. Like the birds, I go back each spring. Camped out at the marsh, there is about a one-hour period — from about 3 to 4 a.m. — when the birds are finally quiet enough to permit sound sleep. But soon it is time to rise for the best time of day here; dawn, when the air is cool and mist hangs in wisps and birds like this willet animate the landscape.”

Glenn Oakley is a Boise, Idaho-based photographer noted for his ability to capture a sense of place and being in the moment.
