Hildegard Westerkamp grew up in postwar Germany and emigrated to Canada in 1968. She is a freelance composer/audio artist and has taught courses in acoustic communication at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. She has given many lectures, workshops and seminars on sound, noise and music - locally and internationally. Most of her work during the last twenty years has centred on environmental sound and acoustic ecology.
