Scene at Banff

 

Banff Centre Board of Governors chair Philip Ponting shares a story with Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond during a visit to the Centre in January.

 

In June, The Banff Centre welcomed David Cox, an expert on environmental issues with a passion for the mountains, as executive director of Mountain Culture and environmental programming. Cox’s appointment strengthens the Centre’s suite of mountain environment and sustainability programs, while maintaining its successful mountain culture programming.

The Banff Centre’s A.R.T. Visualization and Collaboration Labs received $151,400 in funding this spring as part of a $78 million investment by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) in the Compute Canada High Performance Computing consortium. In this image participants in the Centre’s Liminal Screen residency experience The Northern Lights Project, an interactive 3D environment, in the Lab.

John Vaillant signs books at the 2006 Banff Mountain Book Festival. Earlier this year, as the result of a connection made at the Centre, Vaillant sold the British publishing rights for his book The Golden Spruce to Random House UK. The Golden Spruce won the 2005 Governor General’s Literary Award in Nonfiction.

On April 12, Myron Thompson, Member of Parliament for Wild Rose announced over $5.9 million in funding to The Banff Centre. $5.8 million of the funding will go to the Banff Centre Revitalization project. $100,000 was awarded to the Playbill Series through the Department of Canadian Heritage’s adjudicated Arts Presentation Canada program.
