Awards and Accolades

The Banff Centre salutes the following alumni and faculty for these recent awards:

Alex Janvier and Tanya Mars, winners of the 2008 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts;

Pianist Anton Kuerti, choreographer Brian Macdonald, playwright and Banff Centre emeritus artist-in-residence John Murrell, and filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin, recipients of the 2008 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards for Lifetime Artistic Achievement;

Vancouver artist Stan Douglas, winner of the 2008 Canada Council Bell Award in Video Art for exceptional contributions;

Rawi Hage, winner of the 2008 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award;

Writers’ Trust of Canada award winners Lawrence Hill (fiction) and Anna Porter (non-fiction);

 

Paul Quarrington, whose book King Leary was the winner of CBC Radio’s 2008 Canada Reads;

CBC Literary Award winners Jeramy Dodds (English-language poetry) and Lee Kvern, (English-language short story);

Alberta Literary Awards winners Myrna Kostash (lifetime achievement) and Roberta Rees (short fiction);

Conductor Alain Trudel, winner of the 2008 Heinz Unger Award;

2008 Juno Award winners Brandi Disterheft, Christos Hatzis, Peter McCann, Sarah Neufeld, Richard Reed Perry, Jayme Stone, Bramwell Tovey, and Dan Weiss;

Dr. David Schindler, awarded an Alberta Order of Excellence for his groundbreaking research on water and the environment.
