Painter House reborn
In the heart of the Leighton Artists’ Colony, the historic Walter Painter House has been transformed into a spacious and secluded studio in which senior artists collaborate. Generously donated to the Centre by Glen and Ann Sather, the home was originally built in 1913 by architect Walter S. Painter, who also designed the 1914 additions to the Banff Springs Hotel. It was relocated to the Leighton Artists’ Colony in May 2008. This summer, the Centre and the Sather Family were awarded the 2009 Banff Heritage Corporation Award for Best Adaptive reuse of a Heritage Building for the project.
