Product Consolidation Residency
Locations:
The Banff Centre
Program Dates:
February 16 - 26, 2007
Edmonton, Alberta’s Hotrocket Inc. and Toronto, Ontario’s Invert Media Inc. joined forces February 16 - 26, 2007 to create a digital media property game, Breach of Contract. This single player game allows users, primarily between the ages of 15 to 21, to engage in conflict resolution scenarios by using Native American treaties as a frame of reference. Focusing on Canada’s treaty process with Aboriginal peoples, advancement within the game requires informed and peaceful decision making.
Using actual events taken from headlines from Canada, the United States, and Mexico, players are asked to help resolve conflict by gaining knowledge about the issues and people surrounding the event. Users experience rewards in the form of positive energy which move you to higher levels of knowledge and access to key information for advancement in the game.
Developing their ideas from concept to delivery, this residency allowed the two companies from Alberta and Ontario to come together for project planning, brainstorming, and storyboarding in a creative environment here at The Banff Centre. Breach of Contract is slated for release in 2008.
