Ethical Governance: Creating a climate of Corporate Integrity

Leadership Development at The Banff Centre hosted a Thought Leader Forum to explore the use of creativity processes on the ethical governance of organizations. This three and a half day forum used theatre-based methods to explore a leader’s responsibility to create a climate of integrity.

The business world has been profoundly affected by the failure of well-known and previously well-respected organizations. The CEOs of these organizations are being held up to intense public scrutiny and legal attention. Are they alone in the blame? New safeguards and regulations are being quickly put into place in an attempt to avoid repeated occurrences of apparent unethical practices. However, current reactions tend to show little creativity and imagination – the basic assumptions and traditional structures underlying modern organizational governance are not being addressed.

The Banff Centre is a unique place for exploration and discovery. It engenders many of the essential qualities of the human spirit – imagination, beauty, challenge, diversity and trust. It is a place where leaders come for renewal and continuous learning. The Banff Centre holds the promise of renewal for those who are willing to stretch the boundaries of traditional thinking to explore deeper and complex issues.

Ethical Governance – Creating a Climate of Corporate Integrity is the second in a series of four Thought Leader Forums that gathers leading edge thinkers from the areas of business governance and theatre creativity. This Forum will created a space for challenging questions and focused on discussion and inventiveness. It used theatre methods to employ paradigm-shifting processes within an artistic environment and participants weaved the outcomes into new perspectives, learnings, and insights.

The following Thought Leaders Ken Smith, Robin Higham, Caroline Oliver and Dr. Catherine Tinker, and Master Artists Simon Malbogat, Bob Kulhan, Betsey Baun and David Horth took us on this journey. Click on their names' for brief outlines of some of their accomplishments.
