Mike Daisey:
The Last Cargo Cult
Friday, October 2, 2009 – 7:30 p.m.
Margaret Greenham Theatre
Tickets: Adults: $30, Senior/Student: $28
Solo theatre sensation Mike Daisey has been compared to premiere yarn-spinners Spalding Gray and David Sedaris, with one notable difference: Daisey works without a script. His monolgues are expertly constructed, with multiple narrative threads put together, amazingly, extemporaneously in front of the audience.
The Last Cargo Cult tells the true-life story of his time on a remote South Pacific island whose inhabitats worship America at the base of a constantly erupting volcano. A sharp, searing examination of the international global economic time, Daisey wrestles with the largest questions about what the collapse means, and what it says about our deepest cultural values.
