Her choreography is exuberant… Barton is sexy, cheeky and profound all at the same time.

— The Globe and Mail<

Known for her complex, demanding dance-making that is at once vulnerable, feisty, witty, and impetuous, Alberta’s own Aszure Barton is one of the world’s hottest contemporary choreographers. Barton’s company, Aszure & Artists, is in residence during the 2009 Banff Summer Arts Festival developing and performing a new work, Busk II, co-commissioned by The Banff Centre, as well as performing other Barton favorites, in the company’s Alberta debut.

Busk II was co-commissioned by The Banff Centre and the Ringling International Arts Festival, John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in Sarasota, Florida, in association with the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City. Busk II was developed in the Creative Residency Program at The Banff Centre. The March 2009 development of the companion work, Busk I, was made possible by generous support from Danceworks, a unique collaboration between Summerdance Santa Barbara and the Lobero Theatre. Additional support for the Project 09 has been provided by the Howard Gilman Foundation.
