Douglas Sax
World-renowned mastering engineer Douglas Sax gave up a career as a symphonic trumpeter to open the Mastering Lab in Los Angles in 1967. As one of the first independent mastering facilities in the world, it embodied a unique concept of signal flow using the exclusively hand-crafted electronics developed by his brother, Sherwood Sax. In his 32 year career at the Mastering Lab, Doug has worked with countless artists from Aaron Neville to Frank Zappa. He is most proud that Grammy award winning engineers such as Ed Cherney, James Guthrie, Greg Ladanyi, George Massenburg, Al Schmitt, and Bill Schnee call the Mastering Lab home, and use the electronics and monitors developed there. Doug is also president of Sheffield Lab, the pioneering audiophile recording company and has been awarded an honorary lifetime membership from the AES for Sheffield’s contributions to audio excellence.
