Benoit Delbecq

Benoit Delbecq

A dreamer and an adventurer, French pianist and composer Benoît Delbecq has been one of the activists of Hask (1992-2004), a Paris-based cutting-edge jazz collective that has contributed to revitalizing the French creative music scene. His music and projects, including works for theatre, dance, literature, and visual arts, are regularly used by major events around the world.

With roots in both jazz history and contemporary music, Delbecq’s works have been receiving acclaim since the early ‘90s. He is an expert in prepared piano, and works regularly in the electronic music field. Inspired by alternative urban musical experiments as well as electronic musical adventures, he also improvises a personal approach of drum’n bass, ambient, and on-the-fly remixes. His acoustic works are published mainly on Songlines (Canada), his electronic works on Plush (GB).

Benoît Delbecq was awarded the Prix de la SACEM in 1995 for his compositions in group KARTET, and Prix de la Villa Médicis Hors-les-murs 2001 for his first solo piano recording Nu-Turn (Songlines, 2003).
