Lawrence Hill's novels and non-fiction have been published to critical acclaim and have captured the interest and allegiance of readers around the world.

Hill's third novel was published in 2007 as The Book of Negroes in Canada (HarperCollins) and as Someone Knows My Name in the United States (W.W Norton & Co.). It won the 2008 Commonwealth Writers' Prize (Canada and the Caribbean region) and is currently shortlisted for the 2007 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. A #1 Canadian Bestseller, it was named one of the top 100 books of 2007 by The Globe and Mail. In the United States, Amazon.com listed Someone Knows My Name as one of the top 100 books of the year.

Hill's most recent non-fiction book The Deserter's Tale: the Story of an Ordinary Soldier Who Walked Away from the War in Iraq (written with Joshua Key) was released in 2007 in the United States, Canada, Australia, and numerous European countries. In Canada, Quill & Quire magazine named it one of the top ten books published in 2007.

Hill lives in Burlington, Ontario, Canada with his wife and five children.
