Joni Cooper

Director, Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival

Joni Cooper left a government career with Parks Canada to enter the realm of documentary film where she produced award-winning content. After surfing the chaos of independent film, she spent 15 years managing the content and programming for the Banff World Television Festival and consulting with film and television events around the world including Sithengi, Southern Africa's Film and Television Market, Sharing Stories, Scotland, the California Film Institute; and the Asia Factual Forum in Singapore. While these projects furthered her core objectives to support excellence in programming content and cultivate partnerships toward business development within the industry and developing markets, she put her non-profit experience to use by co-founding In Balance International in 2005, an organization devoted to leveraging individual consumer power toward gender balanced decision-making. In 2008 Joni was engaged as executive director for the DOXA Documentary Film Festival in Vancouver; and in 2010, Joni returned to her roots in the Canadian Rockies to take up the post of programming director for the Banff Mountain Festival at The Banff Centre.
