Colin Bernhardt
Colin Bernhardt was trained as an actor in Montreal and Vancouver, and was for four seasons a member of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Company – touring with them to Europe and the former Soviet Union. While working as actor and teacher, he gained his B.A., B.Ed., and M.A, and is an Associate of Trinity College, London (Speech and Drama). Colin has taught speech and acting since the mid-70s at the University of Toronto, The Banff Centre, the Teatterikorkeakoulu in Finland, the European Opera Centre (Belgium), and with the Whitehorse Poetry Society in the Yukon. For five years he was resident voice and speech teacher with Banff’s Music Theatre Studio Ensemble. He has been a regular faculty member of The Banff Centre’s Writing Workshop since 1989, and taught and directed as a professor at Acadia University from 1986 to 2006. Colin has also taught musicians, lawyers, ministers, prisoners, and many people in need, and has been described as ‘a rare entity that when encountered can make you completely re-evaluate the way you approach life for the bettering of all humankind.’ His book So To Speak, on his work as a teacher, is published by Ekstasis Editions (2000).
