
Lorna Mcghee
Scottish-born flautist Lorna McGhee studied at the Royal Academy of Music with world-renowned soloist, William Bennett. Upon graduating, she was awarded the Royal Academy's top prize, the Queen's Commendation for Excellence. In the same year, she also won the prestigious Shell/London Symphony Orchestra Scholarship. Lorna was also amongst the prize winners of the 1996 Prague Spring International Flute Competition. In 1996, she was given the honourary title of Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
As a concerto soloist she has appeared with the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Here in North America, Ms. McGhee has performed concertos with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, Toronto Philharmonia, and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.
As a recitalist and chamber musician, Lorna has been broadcast on BBC, CBC, and NPR radio networks. She has performed in such venues as the Louvre, Paris, Wigmore Hall, London, and the Schubertsaal of the Konzerthaus in Vienna. She has made chamber music recordings with the British ensemble Mobius and with the European Soloists Ensemble. Lorna has appeared at festivals in Britain, Holland, and Germany and is now frequently featured in chamber music festivals in U.S. and Canada, notably the Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Sitka Summer Music Festival, the Strings in the Mountains, and the Vancouver Chamber Music Festival. Lorna is often the guest soloist at the annual National Flute Association Conventions in the U.S.
Together with harpist Heidi Krutzen, they form the McGhee & Krutzen duo. This exceptional team, in its three year history, has received stunning acclaim for their seamless chamber musicianship, both in concerto and recital performances.
Lorna taught for a year as visiting assistant professor at the University of Michigan and currently teaches at the University of British Columbia.
