about Audio
about Audio
Audio programs and facilities are housed within the Film & Media department at The Banff Centre, and provide the “sound” component of the Music & Sound department. The Audio program draws talented individuals with diverse technical and artistic backgrounds from around the world and is internationally renowned for providing exceptional professional development opportunities through the unique work-study programs. The well-equipped recording and editing facilities make the program especially attractive for musicians, engineers, and researchers in the audio field.
The audio work study programs provide professional training in: music recording for compact disc, live concerts, and demos; audio post-production for film and television; digital editing and mastering; audio for new media; and audio research. These programs are available to audio engineers wishing to gain experience, as well as to those with less experience but interested in pursuing a professional career in audio. They have attracted high profile faculty and musicians for many years, and offer participants the chance to benefit from orientation and workshops given by professional audio staff and visiting music faculty. Engineers in the work-study program record an average of 20 high quality CD productions and approximately 250 concerts each year, and also work on audio post-production for film and television.
Recording opportunities are available for musicians participating in any of the Music & Sound programs, and also to outside individuals and groups on a commercial basis.
