Leighton Artist' Colony

Inspiring and supportive environment

These eight distinct studios, each designed by a Canadian architect, are located in a secluded wooded area of The Banff Centre. The studios offer a concentrated, retreat environment to professional artists engaged in the creation of new work.

Interdisciplinary community

Applications for Independent Residencies are accepted from artists of a variety of disciplines: writers, composers, singer-songwriters, visual artists, screenwriters, playwrights, literary translators, curators, art theorists, and professionals working in theatre, dance and film at the conceptualization or research stage of a project. Acceptance is based on an application/adjudication process.

Ideal working space

Each studio has a private view and is equipped with a kitchenette, washroom, CD player, comfortable furnishings, and a either a PC or Macintosh computer complete with internet access and printing capabilities. Three of the studios have pianos, two are designed for visual artists, and three accommodate writers. The studios appeal to a variety of disciplines, and some are large enough to accommodate collaborative projects. On-site accommodation and dining facilities are also provided.
