About the Library

The library is located on the lower level of Lloyd Hall. The library was established in 1979, when year-round residence programs were established. This resulted in the need for a library, a full-time librarian, and a collection of resources that would be available to the faculty, staff and artists of The Banff Centre.

The library's mandate is to provide an organization of facilities, access systems and personnel to encourage artists to develop their creative potential and adopt an interdisciplinary approach to the arts. The result is a collection of materials with a focus on the visual and performing arts.

In October of 1997, the library and archives were renamed the Paul D. Fleck Library and Archives, to honour our past president Dr. Paul D. Fleck who served The Banff Centre from 1982 until his death in 1992.

To date, the library has over 89,000 items in the collections.

About the Archives

The archives' mandate is to collect the accumulated experience of The Banff Centre. To reflect both the administration and the culture, the holdings consist of presidential and departmental records, private papers, and semi-official materials such as newsletters, program calendars for the Arts and Leadership programs, annual reports, concert programs and posters. Other media such as photographs, videos, sound recordings, technical drawings and productions books from the music, opera, musical theatre, drama and ballet programs form a significant part of the holdings.

Access restrictions apply in some areas.
