Banff Centre Leadership Lab gets toes tapping
with two-day workshop

Business leaders will be cutting a rug as a means to cutting costs and managing complexity in business as part of The Banff Centre Leadership Lab’s dance-themed workshop June17 to 19. Led by Motus O Dance troupe, Ontario-based movement instructors and coaches, adult educators, and leadership development facilitators, the sessions will explore how physical movement and dance can enhance leadership skills.

Over three full-day sessions open to the public, “Advancing the Practice of Leadership through Dance” will emphasize artistic processes and the process of exploring leadership through creativity.  The workshop will take place during The Banff Summer Arts Festival, giving participants the opportunity to attend a number of festival performances.

“In our role as leaders there inevitably comes a time when we must take to the "stage" - our personal moment to shine,” says Colin Funk, Director of Creativity for Leadership Development at The Banff Centre.  “Effective Dancers command our attention and invoke our imagination and emotion. Leaders can gain tremendous insight in how to cultivate personal presence by observing and experiencing dance and movement techniques.”

The movement and dance workshop is the latest in a series of creativity-based sessions developed by The Banff Centre’s Leadership Lab.  Since September 2002, sessions have brought business leaders into contact with physical theatre and voice, movement and mask, bookmaking and creative writing, and ceramics and painting.
