Returning to The Banff Centre June 24, three-time Juno award winning African guitarist and singer Alpha Yaya Diallo and his band will be bringing a memorable and hypnotic night of world music to The Banff Centre. Paying deep respect to his roots, he weaves traditional and contemporary instruments into an inspired tapestry of sound.
Diallo combines a dexterous style of acoustic and electric guitar playing, with its fluid melodic lines and compelling grooves with his own compositions and supple beautifully modulated singing voice to produce an exciting and original sound. With his band, Diallo mixes traditional Guinean music with jazz, blues, and funk influences, using traditional instruments such as the Djembe (talking drum) and the Kora (a large harp lute) as well as more contemporary instruments. Fusing technology with tradition, Diallo’s music dares you not to dance. He has created a sound rich with depth and diversity, establishing a truly global listening experience.
