Montreal-based philanthropist  appointed to The Banff Centre Board of Governors

Philip G. Ponting, chair of the board of governors of The Banff Centre, is pleased to announce the appointment of Gail Merilees Jarislowsky to the board of governors of The Banff Centre.

Jarislowsky is currently serving as past chair of the Board of Directors of the Montreal General Hospital Foundation where she was chair from 2001 to 2003. She is also on the boards of the McGill University Health Centre Foundation and the MUHC Research Institute Foundation. She is a member of the Board of the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art at Concordia University and is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board of the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia.

An active member of the Montreal community, Jarislowsky is highly committed to her volunteer work with a variety of organizations. She was a member of the board of Centaur Theatre from 1983 to 1986 and was a long-serving member of several boards at Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School. 

In the past, she taught at both the elementary and secondary levels as well as in special education, and has also worked in the field of public relations. She was a director of Virgin Records (Canada) Inc. during the 1980s. Jarislowsky lives in Montreal with her husband Stephen, and their two children.
