Pianist Matthieu Fortin, winner of a 2005 Award from the Galaxie Rising Stars program of the CBC, will play Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto during the last Banff Festival Orchestra concert of the summer, on Friday August 12 in the Eric Harvie Theatre at The Banff Centre.
Made up of some of Canada’s best young professional, early-career musicians, the 45-piece Orchestra’s members participate in master classes throughout the summer under the tutelage of The Banff Centre’s distinguished visiting musicians, and perform a series of mainstage concerts. The August 12 concert will feature a program of Russian and French music conducted by trombonist and composer / conductor Alain Trudel, with a special performance by trumpeter Jens Lindemann. The evening’s repertoire includes Mussorgsky’s masterpiece, Pictures at an Exhibition, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel.
