With a sound that can range through bluegrass to blues, Celtic to roots, and into some Tuvan throat singing, popular Alberta quintet the McDades return to The Banff Centre on Saturday, October 1, for a show in the Margaret Greenham Theatre.
Made up of three Albertans and two Quebecois, the group spins out vocals in English and French, melted together with a lively and eclectic mix of styles, all grounded in traditional Celtic inspiration. Folk-fest staples who tour consistently across Canada, the McDades have just returned from a multi-city tour through the eastern states on the heels of their first recording, For Reel.
“The McDades find their groove somewhere between a down-home kitchen party, a jazzy after-hours club, and a folk festival… blazing and soothing,” the London Free Press said about one of their recent shows.
The Banff Centre’s Playbill series continues with Morgan Davis (October 7), Danú (October 13), Ian Tyson (October 21), David Francey (October 28), Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana (November 12), The Banff Players’ production of Waiting for the Parade (November 18 and 19), the Cottars (November 24), UHF (November 25), Tri-Continental (December 3), and the Rankin Sisters (December 10).
