Solo after 25 years of criss-crossing Canada, Europe, and the U.S. with his band, Morgan Davis brings his tough and soulful blues to the stage of The Club at The Banff Centre on Friday October 7.
With a deep, blues-revival sound, Davis has backed up a host of greats, including Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, James Cotton, and Willie Dixon. His last CD, Painkiller, took home the Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year, and his original songs are a tribute to traveling and playing the back roads right across the continent. For his Banff Centre show, Davis will play one of the Centre’s most intimate venues, the licensed, cabaret-style Club.
“From Chicago city blues to New Orleans shuffle, Davis cruised the length and breadth of the continent in blues form, and moved the proceedings along with his customarily smooth stage patter,” is what The Globe and Mail had to say about one of his shows.
The Banff Centre’s Playbill series continues with Danu (October 13), Ian Tyson (October 21), David Francey (October 28), the Michael Kaeshammer Trio (November 8), Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana (November 12), The Banff Players’ production of Waiting for the Parade (November 18 and 19), The Cottars (November 24), UHF (November 25), Tri-Continental (December 3), and The Rankin Sisters (December 10).
