The Banff Centre launches its fall music season with a week of concerts September 28 to October 2, showcasing the talents of musicians from around the world. With 40 international musicians in Banff for the Fall residency, the program for the kick-off week will feature repertoire by Prokofiev, Beethoven, Ravel, Hindemith, Berio, and more.

The week begins September 28 with Music at Noon in the Centre’s Rolston Recital Hall, includes a Concert Night Out on Thursday, September 29, and the annual Taste of the Series kick-off concert on Friday September 30, including a post-concert reception and wine tasting, and wraps up with the weekly Canmore Sunday afternoon concert at the Canmore Seniors Centre October 2.

The Series continues through December 9, including the weekly Concert Night Out events, Wine & Concert Chats, Canmore Sundays, Casual Afternoon Concerts, and Music at Noon. Programs range from soloists to small and impromptu ensembles, and works by a full range of composers, from classical to modern. Resident musicians will be joined throughout the season by visiting artists, this year including pianist Richard Raymond on October 14, cellist Winona Zelenka on October 28, pianist Frederic Chiu on November 18, violinist/violist Scott St. John on November 25, flautist Lorna McGhee on November 25, and percussionist Bill Cahn on December 2.

On Tuesday, November 15, members of the National Arts Centre Orchestra will present a chamber concert in the Rolston Recital Hall with a program of works from 1914 to the present.

Music enthusiasts will also be able to take advantage of the Centre’s popular Concert Lover Card again this year – for $50 per person, the card allows for free admission to all Music & Sound concerts in both the Fall and Winter Series, which add up to dozens of concerts through March 24. For more information on the Concert Lover Card, contact The Banff Centre Box Office at 762-6301 or 1-800-413-8368.
