Banff Centre’s 2006 Playbill Series kicks off with
family-style theatre show January 7

Catherine Archambault auditioned for the leading role in Les Deux Mondes Theatre’s production of Living Memory alongside countless toys, from stuffed rabbits to toy tanks, which were there auditioning as supporting cast. In the play, Archambault presents an exploration of a woman’s life and memories through the eyes of a young girl, dramatically enhanced by a combination of poetry and multimedia. Living Memory, presented by Montreal-based Les Deux Mondes Theatre, kicks off The Banff Centre’s 2006 Playbill Series in the Eric Harvie Theatre on January 7.
Aimed at family audiences (ages nine and older), the play unfolds in a dream-like way, with live performance, video production, and sound sampling. It’s about the idea that "the earth is a park, an awesome playground. Life is a child who passes through the park, playing as he goes." Touching on ideas around memory, imagination, and a joy for life, as well as moodier themes, the production’s prevailing message is a reminder to grown-ups to remember childhood and seize the day.
Since 1993, Les Deux Mondes has been revitalizing traditional theatre by mixing a variety of techniques in text, music, and video. Their shows expand the classic space of the stage, seamlessly interplaying between live and recorded action and settings, and they’ve toured the world with a series of award-winning family-oriented shows.
