Acclaimed pianist Anton Kuerti to perform at The Banff Centre February 3

Distinguished pianist Anton Kuerti joins the line-up of visiting musicians at The Banff Centre for the 2006 winter music residency. He will spend a week collaborating with the emerging professional musicians at the Centre, and will also perform with resident musicians at the Concert Night Out on Friday, February 3.

Pianist, teacher, composer, concert organizer, and artistic director, Kuerti’s distinctive interpretations and remarkable consistency have earned him a rank among the world's top pianists. His vast repertoire includes some 50 concertos, and his recordings can be heard almost daily on CBC Radio.

The reviewer for Fanfare magazine, said about Kuerti “I have come to believe, and I intend no rhetorical exaggeration, that Anton Kuerti is the best pianist currently playing.” In London, CD Review referred to Kuerti as “one of the truly great mid-generation pianists of this century.”

Born in Austria, Kuerti has lived in Canada for the last 35 years. His distinguished performing career has included tours to nearly 40 countries. In Canada, Kuerti has appeared in 140 communities and played with every professional orchestra. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, and has received several honorary doctorates.

Additional highlights of the winter series include a special program January 27 featuring the music of Mozart, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth in 1756, and a performance on March 23 by the Jupiter String Quartet, winners of the 2004 Banff International String Quartet Competition.
