Live music underscores Decidedly Jazz Danceworks’ Pulse at The Banff Centre

Just as heartbeats race or relax depending on the situation, Pulse by Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) promises to keep audiences in motion - switching gears, and pulsing with energy, rhythm, and passion. Celebrating a wide range of styles, from soulful blues to the joyful energy of swing, the show explores physical and emotional responses to life while taking its audience on a journey through the sights and sounds of jazz. DJD will perform Pulse in The Banff Centre’s Eric Harvie Theatre on Wednesday, February 8.

Created by DJD artistic director Vicki Adams Willis, the show features eight dancers and will include audience favourites along with new work. A trio of jazz musicians including music director Kristian Alexandrov, bassist George Koller, and percussionist Davide DiRenzo accompany the show with a live, original score.

Founded in 1984 to create concert jazz dance that sustains the spirit of jazz, DJD continues as one of a handful of dance companies in the world dedicated to traditional and contemporary jazz. Performing with a distinct and eclectic style, mixing groove, African roots, rhythm, improvisation, and the interplay of dancers and musicians, the dance company has distinguished itself on local and international stages.
