Imagine each moment is a chance to start over. Imagine being unhindered by memory. Imagine not being able to think, but only imagine. It would be a bit like dreaming. And what is it that counts in our dreams? These thoughts are explored in Victoria, a multidisciplinary work that blends theatre and dance as it looks at life, aging, and death. Staged and performed by Dulcinea Langfelder, Victoria will be on stage at The Banff Centre’s Margaret Greenham Theatre, Saturday, March 4.

Victoria portrays a woman celebrating her 90th birthday, who has lost much of her memory but not her zest for life. Still recognizing life’s richness and little victories, Victoria savors every moment in a world where her wheelchair, while a prison, is also her rocking chair, her tango partner, and her flying chariot. Stretching between comedy and tragedy, the production uses music, dance, theatre, and physical comedy to capture Victoria’s frequent departures from reality into her vibrant imaginary world.

Dulcinea Langfelder works in theatre, cinema, music, and musical theatre as a choreographer and an actress. Her versatility and her inspired performances garnered her “Personality of the Year in Dance”, an honor given by Montreal newspaper, La Presse, in 1990. The praises Langfelder receives are often based on her ability to use comedy or lightness as a way to confront the sometimes tragic realities of the human condition.

Founded in 1985, Dulcinea Langfelder & Co. has created full length, multidisciplinary works that have toured extensively on four continents. The companies works attempt to break disciplinary and cultural barriers in order to communicate on a profound level with a large and varied audience.
