Hailing from Quebec, Rosheen is a seven-piece band that seamlessly combines traditional Celtic music with smatterings of Quebecois folk music. Playing numerous festivals across Canada, the band has earned a reputation for high-energy live concerts, adding their own unique style to traditional pieces as well as performing original material by different band members. Rosheen will bring lively jigs, reels, and polkas, along with haunting ballads to The Banff Centre’s Margaret Greenham Theatre, March 19.
Founded in 1997 by singer-songwriter Lynn Vallieres, the group now includes six additional seasoned and versatile musicians, and together band members share both a passion for Celtic music and for Quebec. A dynamic ensemble, members of Rosheen mix the sounds of guitar, recorder, bodhran (traditional Celtic drum), piano, violin, mandolin, flute, bass, and percussion.
Demonstrating superb musicianship, breathtaking vocals, and great musical diversity, Rosheen has been making waves. The group can already be heard on the air in North America and Europe and recently signed a management deal with Jensen Music International, and a worldwide record deal with Compass Records. In February 2004, CBC Radio broadcast a live performance by Rosheen from the Capitole de Quebec. The two-hour show was heard coast-to-coast on the French network and was rebroadcast the next day on CBC’s English network.
