A folk and pop legend on both sides of the Atlantic, Scottish singer-songwriter Al Stewart has returned to his acoustic roots and promises to thrill fans old and new alike at The Banff Centre’s Eric Harvie Theatre, Saturday March 11. Celebrated for his distinctive voice and smart lyrics, this extraordinary songwriter and guitarist is internationally renowned for his recordings and hypnotic live performances. Most famous for his 1970’s hits Time Passages and Year of the Cat, Stewart has sold millions of albums worldwide throughout his lengthy career.
As he nears the 20-album mark, Stewart remains in timeless form. A literate and vivid storyteller his writing consistently and skillfully combines well-researched historical situations with personal ones. Sometimes mysterious, his lyrics span centuries and continents, drawing on pieces of autobiography, world politics, history, and fiction. Stewart has found success with songs showcasing everything from guitar and saxophone solos to wistful soft-rock sounds, and from short-story songs to his recent acoustic-rock.tunes.
Like the fine wines that are his hobby, Al Stewart’s gifts as a singer and songwriter have matured and ripened over the course of his musical career and he continues to tour, his surreal spoken introductions playing their part in the show as always, and his wonderful stories and songs winning audiences. For this concert guitarist-singer Dave Nachmanoff will open for, and accompany Stewart.
