Stuart McLean is a bestselling author, award-winning journalist and humourist, and host of CBC Radio’s “The Vinyl Café.” Since 1998, McLean has taken “The Vinyl Café” on the road across Canada, giving performances in large and small towns, complete with comic narratives and live concert performances showcasing the talents of Canadian musicians. McLean will bring “Live from the Vinyl Café” to The Banff Centre’s Eric Harvie Theatre, April 12.

Every weekend more than 700,000 people tune in to the show to hear McLean relate his visits to “the world’s smallest record store,” where he picks up an eclectic selection of recorded music and some neighbourhood gossip from the store’s eccentric owner. McLean spins the gossip into entertaining short stories, which he interweaves with fascinating music selections.

McLean is recognized as one of Canada’s great broadcast personalities. He began his broadcasting career making radio documentaries for CBC Radio’s Sunday Morning, is an accomplished author and an award-winning journalist. His books The Morningside World of Stuart McLean (1989), Welcome Home: Travels in Small Town Canada (1992), Stories from the Vinyl Cafe (1995), When We Were Young: A Collection of Canadian Stories (1996), Home from the Vinyl Cafe (1998), The Vinyl Cafe Unplugged (2000) and The Vinyl Cafe Diaries (2003) have all been Canadian bestsellers. Both Home from the Vinyl Cafe and Vinyl Cafe Unplugged have received the prestigious Stephen Leacock Award for Humour.
