Under the baton of renowned conductor Alain Trudel, the 45-piece Banff Festival Orchestra takes centre stage for what promises to be a magnificent concert. The evening’s selections will include Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos, featuring soloists Gloria Reimer and Christopher Atzinger, as well as Serenade No. 12 for Winds, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite, and Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin.

Part of the Banff Summer Arts Festival, Festival Orchestra is one of a number of opera and orchestra performing opportunities for young musicians taking part in The Banff Centre’s Music & Sound residencies. Conducted by Alain Trudel, the performance showcases the talents of professional, early career musicians from around the world. Participating in music residencies and master classes throughout the summer, these up-and-coming musicians receive instruction and mentoring from an internationally distinguished group of visiting faculty.

Alain Trudel

One of the great trombonists of his generation, Alain Trudel made his debut as a trombone soloist at the age of 18 with Charles Dutoit at the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. As a composer, he has written commissioned works for soloist, chamber ensembles, and orchestra which are widely performed. Trudel is highly regarded as a conductor, having led professional orchestras and ensembles on three continents in a wide variety of repertoire with repeated return invitations. Since 2000, he has been invited to conduct orchestras including the Vancouver CBC Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Symphony, Orchestre Metropolitain du Grand Montreal, City of Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, The Tokyo Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia in the U.K., and an all-star chamber ensemble in Hamamatsu (Japan), which included members from leading orchestras in Europe and America. Alain Trudel has conducted the Banff Festival Orchestra for the past three Festival seasons.
