2006 Paul D. Fleck Fellowships in the Arts
Visual Arts: Kathy Kissik (Miami)
A fine-art photographer known for her fusion of contemporary and historical photography with found objects, Miami-based artist Kathy Kissik has had solo exhibitions throughout Ireland, as well as at galleries in Toronto, Boston, and Rhode Island. Her work drew particular attention a few years ago in September, 2001, when she unveiled a piece she had been working on for two years called Postcard from New York. It featured a mix of images of New York City aerial photography centred on the Twin Towers, and photographs of angels, all collaged onto a piece of airplane wreckage. With work that has taken her on travels around the world, Kissik will come to Banff to create new large-scale photographs inspired by Tunnel Mountain and the area’s sacred Aboriginal heritage.
