2006 Paul D. Fleck Fellowships in the Arts
Theatre Arts: Sandra Laronde (Toronto)
Founder and artistic director of the acclaimed Aboriginal theatre and dance group Red Sky Performance, Sandra Laronde is tireless in her pursuit of new creative work, and the fusion of traditional and modern themes in Aboriginal arts. An actor, dancer, writer, and producer, Laronde performed in dance works including Dancing Americas, Caribou Song, and the Banff Centre production Miinigooweziwin… The Gift. Originally from Teme-Augama-Anishnaabe, with Red Sky Laronde recently choreographed a collaboration between North American and Australian traditional and modern dance, music, and movement called Shimmer, which is currently on tour across Canada. As part of the Fleck Fellowship, Laronde brought the cast and crew of Shimmer to The Banff Centre to refine production elements of the show.
