Mix the cultures of Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia with jugglers, fire-eaters, and dancers, and the result is Sarakasi — The Amazing African Acrobats. Billing themselves as the first truly authentic African circus, Sarakasi combines the rhythms of Africa with traditional circus skills and high-energy music, to create a show that will captivate audiences of all ages.

This two-hour spectacular features human pyramids, eight-pin juggling, contortionists, African dancers, drumming, music, and more. Sarakasi, which means acrobatics/circus in the Kiswahili language, combines traditional African rhythms and movement with acrobatics inspired by Chinese circus acts, and by African-rooted acts such as limbo and fire-eating. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the group celebrates the diversity of the African continent and the festive joy of the circus in one exhilarating, energetic, and athletic performance.

The Banff Centre’s fall 2006 Playbill Series debuts with a trio of shows in late September, including Fiamma Fumana (September 24), Sarakasi — The Amazing African Acrobats (September 29), and Sons of Maxwell (September 30).

Tickets for all Banff Centre events are available through The Banff Centre Box Office: 1-800-413-8368 or 403-762-6301.
