With an impressive discography and performance resume, including several East Coast Music Awards, the Sons of Maxwell have come a long way from their homes in Northern Ontario. Brothers Don and Dave Carroll and their band combine evocative folk-pop grooves, original melodies, and memorable story songs to create energetic performances that have earned them a dedicated fan base across Canada.
The band’s name honours their father Max Carroll. Born and raised in Timmins, Ontario, the brothers began singing together while attending Carleton University. After settling in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1993, they embarked on full-time music careers. Sons of Maxwell have released eight recordings, most recently the CD Sunday Morning, winner of Country Recording of The Year at the 2006 East Coast Music Awards (ECMA). The brothers were previous ECMA winners in the 2002 Roots Traditional Group of The Year category.
The band has toured extensively across Canada, and performed in Europe and China. With a sound rooted in harmony vocals and acoustic guitar, Sons of Maxwell are a hit with both audiences and music reviewers. Critics note that the band’s strength lies in their strong song writing, their ability to bridge pop, country, Celtic and folk, and the often hilarious on stage rapport between the brothers and their audiences.
The Banff Centre’s fall 2006 Playbill Series debuts with a trio of shows in late September, including Fiamma Fumana (Sept. 24) , Sarakasi – The Amazing African Acrobats (Sept 29), and Sons of Maxwell (Sept. 30).
Tickets for all Banff Centre events are available through The Banff Centre Box Office: 1-800-413-8368 or 403-762-6301.
