For James Keelaghan, the best songs tell good stories. His passion is for folk music, complete with rumour, love, document, and adventure. Celebrated for his ability to craft songs that tell deeply moving stories about the past, events, people, and the land, James Keelaghan and his trio, including bassist Hugh McMillan and violinist Oliver Schroer, will play The Banff Centre’s Margaret Greenham Theatre, Sunday, November 12.

Keelaghan promises to deliver a compelling performance based on his album A Few Simple Verses. With this latest recording, he returns to the traditional ballads of the British Isles, some paying tribute to songs his father used to sing. Adding to his 18 years of experience and solid reputation on the folk-circuit, with A Few Simple Verses Keelaghan once again proves himself as a gifted guitarist, folksinger, and storyteller.

Keelaghan has recorded nine albums, received three Juno nominations, and one Juno award. He has a devoted following around the world, playing venues such as Denmark’s Tonder Festival, the Hong Kong Festival, and Australia’s Port Fairly Folk Festival. Consistently, his powerful, coffee-rich baritone voice, enticing melodies, and sense of humour have allowed him to effortlessly develop an instant rapport with audiences and touch universal emotions.

The Banff Centre’s fall 2006 Playbill Series continues with Valdy & Gary Fjellgaard (November 17), Banff Players: A Doll’s House (November 24 and 25), Xavier Rudd (November 26), The Barra MacNeils Christmas Concert (December 2), and Corb Lund (December 8).

Tickets for all Banff Centre events are available through The Banff Centre Box Office: 1-800-413-8368 or 403-762-6301.
