Harry Manx, one of the most original folk-world-blues performers touring today, and Michael Kaeshammer, a master pianist with an eclectic repertoire, have come together to create a truly unique concert experience. Mixing their differing cultural and musical backgrounds with a good dose of exploration and the common ground of blues and jazz, Manx and Kaeshammer offer an amazingly varied performance.
Harry Manx and Michael Kaeshammer have each enjoyed successful solo careers in Canada, the United States, and overseas. Manx draws on American blues, jazz, and world-folk to craft his own style of music. His repertoire features his hypnotic voice as well as unusual instruments including a combination guitar-sitar, called a Mohan veenan, and a cigar box attached to two broomsticks with beer caps, a device thus far unnamed. Kaeshammer thrills with his jaw-dropping dexterity on the keys. His daring original compositions and funky interpretations of classic ragtime and boogie-woogie songs are topped-off by his vocals and tough-in-cheek humour.
For Manx and Kaeshammer, the choice to blend their exceptional musical talents recognizes their mutual respect for each others music and desire to examine new approaches, perspectives, and artistic challenges. In addition to solo sets, Manx and Kaeshammer unite their talents in a masterpiece fusion where world, roots, and blues meet with jazz and boogie-woogie piano music. The evening is marvelously brought together by the humour, stories, and great generosity offered up by these two expert musicians. Harry Manx and Michael Kaeshammer will play The Banff Centre’s Eric Harvie Theatre on Friday, October 27, as part of The Banff Centre’s fall 2006 Playbill Series.
The Banff Centre’s fall 2006 Playbill Series continues with the Jim Cuddy Band (November 8), the Chucky Danger Band (November 11), the James Keelaghan Trio (November 12), and Valdy and Gary Fjellgaard (November 17).
