Promising bluegrass music at its best, John Reischman and The Jaybirds will bring their distinctive blend of original songs and instrumentals, soaring vocals, and refreshing interpretations of vintage favourites to The Banff Centre’s Margaret Greenham Theatre, Friday, October 20, as part of the fall 2006 Playbill Series.

John Reischman and The Jaybirds have established themselves as one of the top bands playing bluegrass today. With four years of touring across North America and Europe, three critically-acclaimed albums, and a Canadian Juno nomination, the band has become known to consistently offer powerful instrumentals and vocals and unique arrangements. Released in January of 2005, the band's most recent album The Road West is a testament to the band's flawless musicianship.

Though leader and front man John Reischman is recognized as one of the world’s leading mandolin players and composers he is not one to dominate the spotlight. Loading live performances with plenty of variety and new bluegrass twists, Reischman ensures that all members of the band have room to shine. In addition to Reischman, The Jaybirds include highly regarded veterans Jim Nunally on guitar and vocals, Trisha Gagnon on bass and vocals, Nick Hornbuckle on banjo, and Greg Spatz on fiddle.

The Banff Centre’s fall 2006 Playbill Series continues with Montréal Danse – Furies Alpha 1/24 (The Monsters Within) (October 21), Harry Manx and Michael Kaeshammer (October 27), the Jim Cuddy Band (November 8), the Chucky Danger Band (November 11), and the James Keelaghan Trio (November 12).
