Twenty years after releasing his self-titled debut album, singer/songwriter Stephen Fearing continues to experiment, collaborate, and explore a wide variety of musical forms. Well known as a member of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, as a solo artist he draws on a multitude of musical influences including roots, folk, pop, blues, country, Celtic, and jazz, and without fail produces a diverse array of rich and communicative songs. A stand-out performer and storyteller, Fearing is sure to charm the audience at The Club at The Banff Centre, Sunday, February 4.
Canadian born, Irish bred Fearing is described as an incredibly literate, stirring, and emotionally charged singer/songwriter. His powerful lyrics matched with superb vocals and stunning guitar work has made him a perennial favourite at international festivals and concert halls. Of his latest release and eighth solo album, Fearing says “Yellowjacket feels like a new beginning”. Always learning and experimenting, Yellowjacket marks both his first full production credit as well as a creative collaboration with co-writers Josh Finlayson, of The Skydiggers fame, and Tom Wilson.
Fearing has been awarded a West Coast Music Award for Best Folk Music Recording and has five Juno Award nominations as a solo artist. Together with Blackie and the Rodeo Kings he has contributed to three highly praised albums, including the recently released Juno award winning BARK. Showing no signs of slowing down, Fearing is currently working on two upcoming albums with Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and a collaboration with Irish singer/songwriter Andy White.
The Banff Centre’s winter/spring 2007 Playbill Series continues with The Arrogant Worms (February 10), Lunch at Allen’s (February 11), African Guitar Summit (February 17), and Jane Bunnett (February 18).
