In 2001, a creative synergy developed when Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) artistic director Vicki Adams Willis met with singer-actress Jackie Richardson and they produced Longings…for the Invisible. DJD’s Magnetic Consequences is the next eagerly anticipated collaboration between Adams Willis and Richardson, and is guaranteed to have equally rewarding results. Kicking off a cross-Canada tour, DJD’s Magnetic Consequences will be at The Banff Centre’s Eric Harvie Theatre on Saturday, March 24.

A brand-new production, Magnetic Consequences investigates the array of unstoppable and curious physical and emotional reactions that are sometimes triggered by an overpowering attraction to another person. The evening will celebrate the blues in all its soulful, humorous, and poetic incarnations and feature Richardson’s powerhouse vocals. One of Canada’s foremost singers of blues, gospel, and jazz, Richardson’s style has been described as “funk kicked up a notch”. She will come together with famed music director Kristian Alexandrov and a four-piece band to deliver danceable, infectious live music. Widely respected for their artistic excellence and diverse techniques, DJD dancers will complete the line-up for this high-energy performance, choreographed by Adams Willis.

DJD is dedicated to the rich traditions and boundless future of jazz and dance and is renowned for their use of live music and infectious choreography. The company was founded in 1984 with the objective of creating concert jazz dance that sustains the spirit and traditions of jazz. After more than two decades of work, a distinct and eclectic style that mixes groove, African roots, rhythm, improvisation, interplay with musicians, and deeply human soul, has distinguished DJD on the international jazz dance stage.

The Banff Centre’s winter/spring 2007 Playbill Series continues with Shooglenifty (March 25), Lorne Elliott (March 30 and 31), The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Dracula (April 7), Constantinople (April 13), and Sursaut Dance Company (April 14).

Tickets for all Banff Centre events are available through The Banff Centre Box Office: 1-800-413-8368 or 403-762-6301.
