An outstanding group of six leaders from Manitoba-based registered charities are recipients of this year’s Investors Group Scholarships to attend leadership development programs at The Banff Centre. This scholarship program, now in its second year, will provide a total of $126,000 in funding over a five-year period.
The 2007 recipients are:
- Sylvia Oosterveen, Executive Director, Youville Centre
- LuAnn Lovlin, Director, Communications, The Winnipeg Foundation
- Sylvia Rothney, CEO, Alzheimer Society of Manitoba
- Greg Unger, Regional Director, Manitoba/Nunavut Region, Canadian Diabetes Assn.
- Julie Eccles, General Manager, Zoological Society of Manitoba
- Louise Pujo, Director, Development & Sponsorship, Royal Winnipeg Ballet
The individual scholarships are directed at senior staff of Manitoba-based not-for-profit organizations or registered charities. They are valued at $4,200 each and are applied to a week-long leadership development program. The Centre’s programs allow these participants to gain practical knowledge in areas including leading teams, coaching and communicating, managing change, and inspiring creative leadership. For not-for-profit organizations the ability to send key leaders to these programs is critical to the success of both the individual and the organization.
“For more than five decades, The Banff Centre has delivered inspiring leadership development programs to global leaders,” says Nick Nissley, executive director, Leadership Development at The Banff Centre. “It is a tremendous vote of confidence that Investors Group has recognized the excellence of our programs, and the importance of professional development, by generously supporting them in this way.”
“The Investors Group scholarships will help not-for-profit organizations meet the challenge of developing and retaining the leadership necessary to fulfill their important role in community life,” said Richard Irish, Investors Group Assistant Vice-President, Community Affairs. “An effective and active not-for-profit sector is a vital part of every growing and vibrant community and Investors Group is committed to helping communities grow and become stronger.”
Leadership Development at The Banff Centre offers custom and public programs to mid- to senior-level leaders and decision makers in the corporate, government, Aboriginal, arts and non-profit sectors. Leadership programs are inspired by arts, nature, and people. They accelerate creative ideas and support the development of innovative solutions.
