CBC’s Paul Kennedy to host interactive discussion on climate change and leadership

Leading Ideas — Climate Change
Monday, June 18, 7:30 p.m. · Free
TransCanada Pipelines Pavilion, The Banff Centre
Presented as part of the 2007 Banff Summer Arts Festival

Veteran broadcaster Paul Kennedy will host five notable panelists for “Leading Ideas — Climate Change” on June 18, an interactive discussion on the type of leadership required for living with climate change in the 21st century. Part of the 2007 Banff Summer Arts Festival, “Leading Ideas — Climate Change” is a free program presented by the Leadership Development division at The Banff Centre.

“This discussion will move beyond replacing light bulbs and riding your bike to work,” says Colin Funk, creative programming director for Leadership Development. “The dialogue will focus around the question, if we are going to live in a potentially chaotic world of climate change, what type of leaders will be most effective?”

The discussion will be led by award-winning broadcast journalist Paul Kennedy. Well-known to CBC Radio listeners, Kennedy is host of “Ideas”, which gathers thoughts, explores contexts, and makes connections on contemporary social issues in the areas of culture, the arts, geopolitics, history, biography, science and technology, and the humanities. Kennedy has produced and presented close to 200 documentaries for “Ideas” over the past 26 years, including the thought-provoking series “Oceans.”

Kennedy will be joined by five additional speakers including Pat Letizia, executive director of the Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, a partnership between nonprofit environmental groups and industry in Alberta; David Swann MD, MLA of Calgary Mountainview, a family physician, public health consultant, and active supporter of community health and peace projects; Piers Ibbotson, facilitator for The Banff Centre’s “The Art of the Executive Leader” program; Christine Hogan, corporate consultant for Encana; and Brian Calliou, program director for the Centre’s Aboriginal Leadership and Management program.
