The Banff Centre will debut its new summer Sunday concert series on June 17 with a performance by the Montreal-based Trio Mont-Royal, winners of the Galaxie Rising Stars of the CBC award for 2007. Part of the Banff Summer Arts Festival, the Sunday Coffee Concerts are informal, hour-long concerts featuring musicians from the summer music residencies. With new repertoire for every concert, the series is presented at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. every Sunday from June 17th through August 5th, preceded by a complimentary coffee break.
Partnering with The Banff Centre for the sixth consecutive year, the Galaxie Rising Stars of the CBC award is presented to an emerging Canadian artist performing in the Centre’s summer music program, one of many awards the network presents in conjunction with more than 50 music industry partners across Canada to talented up-and-coming artists. Galaxie is the most listened-to continuous music network in the country with more than 6 million subscribers and 45 music channels uninterrupted by ads or talk, and programmed by music experts.
Trio Mont-Royal
Formed in 2005, the Montreal-based Trio Mont-Royal consists of violinist Dominic Guilbault, cellist Julie Hereish, and pianist Michel-Alexandre Broekaert. They began their collaboration at the Université de Montréal, where they are mentored by Johanne Perron, professor of chamber music and cello. The musicians have also participated in master classes with teachers including Jeffrey Sharkey, dean of the Cleveland Institute. Recently recorded as part of Radio-Canada’s Espace Musique through the Jeunes Artistes music competition, their music will be broadcast this summer.
